Condolence: "Mrs. Yates I want to express my deepest sympathy at your family's time of loss. I am the Army Guardsman that blew taps and presented the flag to you at Mr. Yates' service yesterday. I am not known by your family, at least I don't think that our name is. I noticed at the funeral home, the Arl. County plaque on display that Mr. Yates had earned. The "small world" aspect of all of this has made me very curious. You see, Mr. Yates and my father started working for the Arlington School System in the same year. Dad had retired from the Marine Band in DC in July of 1952. He, Wm. Frederick Pfeiffer, took the band director's position at W&L HS Sept, 1952. I read where your husband had graduated from W&L in the obit. Dad retired from Arl. in June 1973. He went to be with the Lord in Nov. 1993. He would have been 101 next month. Dad worked at Stratford Jr. High as well as W&L throughout his career. Every Thanksgiving, our family would make the Old Oaken Bucket football game against GW in Alexandria, part of the day! We may never know, but yesterday I was wondering if Mr. Yates and my father's paths ever crossed to the point of them knowing each other. Just wanted to share this interesting trivia with you. May the Lord grant you comfort, strength, faith and Hope in the Resurrection during this, your time of sorrow. God Bless, Eric Pfeiffer "

Condolence: "Anna,Kathy, Carol, Barbara and all of the grandchildren. We have all lost a wonderful and kind man. Every since I moved across the street from you 3 years ago, you all have accepted me as family. When I was out shoveling top soil on my yard, Bob came over and asked how I was doing. I laughed and told him I had a shovel to fit his hand too. He said "I have something better than a shovel." He went home and here he comes with a tractor and blade. He leveled my whole yard, I'd still be shoveling if it wasn't for him. What a wonderul man. Anna you have always been so good to me too. I still find myself looking over there for him to be standing on the step calling "Rob", that was his nickname for me, but he is no longer suffering and is at peace in heaven. That's the only place he would be sent to. The whole family did a fantastic job of taking care of him. I love you all and thank you so much for letting me be part of your family. I will always be here for you if you ever need anything."
