Obituary for Blair Quentin Yates

Blair Quentin Yates
Blair Quentin Yates, 82, of Valley Lee, MD passed away on August 22nd, 2015. Born April 13th, 1933 in the District of Columbia, to the late William B. Yates and Marion M. Yates. Blair served in the USAF and was a member of the American Legion Post 248, for 45 years, serving as the Historian. Blair was proud of growing up in Southeast DC with the large Yates Family, at 1109 Alabama Avenue. He followed the Redskins, Senators and then the Nationals. Blair was an avid golfer, boater and all-around sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed time on the greens with his lifelong friend, Dave McDonald and his nephew Charlie Foster. Blair worked as a building engineer from 1962, until his retirement, about 15 years ago. He dedicated his life to his family and friends. Blair was always willing to help out a friend, or neighbor he just met, with any project. You could always count on Blair, to get things done right.

Blair is survived by his wife of 57 years, Audrey V. Yates, son, James Q. Yates, daughter, Karen V. Marquess, and her husband, Timothy, grandchildren, Alexander J. Yates, Joseph T. Yates, nephews, Joseph E. Richards III and his wife Lynnea, Charles R. Foster, and his wife Virginia, Niece, Dorothy Anne Richards, two great nieces, three great-great nephews and one great-great niece. In addition, Blair is survived by his sisters, Betty L. Steinle, Barbara M. Greenwell, Bebe B. Bopp, and Boyce C. Brown, his brother Boyd Yates and many nieces and nephews.
At a later date, a private memorial service and interment will be held at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
