Dorothy Lorraine "Dot"  Nelson
Dorothy Lorraine Goldsmith Nelson “Dot”, “Doll baby”, “Mama”, 75, of Mechanicsville, MD formerly of Hughesville, MD passed away on June 11, 2018 in her home surrounded by loving family. Born on May 13, 1943 in Hughesville, MD she was the daughter of the late Marian Lucille Dyer Goldsmith and Wilson J. Goldsmith. Dorothy was the loving wife of James “Mop Jack” Nelson, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 31, 2006 and whom she married in St. Francis de Sales Church in Benedict, MD in 1961. She is survived by her sons, James M. Nelson, Jr. of Lexington Park, MD and Richard Nelson of Hollywood, MD. Siblings; Wilson H. Goldsmith, Delores Goldsmith Cullison, and Evelyn Flerlage. 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Mary Ann Goldsmith and Richard “Morris” Goldsmith.

Dorothy graduated from a Private Catholic School in 1961. She moved to St. Mary’s County MD in 1977 after her husband retired from the Army. Dorothy was a Homemaker and Care-taker of everyone she loved and a faithful SMCPS employee.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Mechanicsville, MD with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery Helen, MD. Pallbearers will be: Jamie Nelson, Wally Nelson, Gary Nelson, Donnie King, Andy Nelson and Bobby Buckler.
