James Gregory "Jack" Bean
James Gregory Bean 83, of Valley Lee, passed away peacefully at his home in Valley Lee, MD on December 14, 2023. Born September 23, 1940 in Valley Lee, MD, Gregory was the son of the late Helen Genevieve Redman Bean and Joseph Leo Bean. He was the loving husband of Guinette “Alberta” Graves Bean who preceded him in death October 3, 2013. They were married in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, Chaptico, MD on February 3, 1962. Gregory is survived by his son’s Charles Bernard of Valley Lee, Md., James Leroy (Cindy) of Valley Lee, Md. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, he is survived by his brothers George Bean (Kathy), Andrew Bean, Robert Bean (Diann), John R. Bean (Libby) and Francis Bean (Gloria) all of Valley Lee, MD and sisters Leona Unkle (Bennie) of Virginia Beach, Va., Gennie Williams (Wayne) of Tall Timbers, Md., Joan Sebring (Dick) of Valley Lee, MD, and Evelyn Bean of Leonardtown, Md. Gregory was preceded in death by a grandson James Morgan and his brothers William Bean, Bernie Bean, and David Bean and Sisters Lucy Bean, Neadurra “Sissy” Hall and Sister Rosalie Bean CSSJ of Hartford, Conn.
Gregory graduated from Saint Michael’s High School, Ridge, MD. Gregory enlisted in the US Air Force and served six months before getting honorable discharge to come home and help with the nine children after his Dad’s death at a young age of forty-seven and to help on the farm. He worked for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) as a meat manger/meat cutter retiring after 35 years of service. Gregory enjoyed NASCAR (Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr.) Music (Don Williams), Cards (Pitch), he loved camping (cross country), his football team was Dallas Cowboys. Gregory was a former member of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department/McKay Beach.
The family will receive friends at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on December 29, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Father Scott S. Holmer officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be; Wayne Oliver, Gary Oliver, Craig Oliver, Robert A. Bean, Sr., Francis Bean and Jason Bean.
